Winter Warriors

I run with a group called "Winter Warriors"
We run outside.
From November to February.

This seemed like an easy choice and a good way to keep me motivated throughout the winter and stay in shape for the two half-marathons I'm hoping to do in the spring. I forgot that we were expecting a real winter this year, and not a prolonged fall like last year....
I went out last week and bought YakTrax (basically for free with a card the store sent me, Yay!) thinking I wouldn't have to use them for several weeks. Then came Sunday's downpour of snow, then Monday's blizzard, and today's gentle, but still very cold addition.
I feel very proud (or crazy?) to say that I went tonight anyways. The temperature was somewhere between 2-8 degrees (F) and while I only did one loop (2.25 miles) I feel somewhat like an actual warrior for having gone in the first place. Also, YakTrax are amazing! I didn't slip once and felt totally secure running on the packed snow/ice combo.

That's all for now. I just wanted my latest post to be more of a positive one than the one before. :) Happy snow to all!

  1. With all due respect... Are you crazy?! We talked to Jocelyne tonight and she said it was 9 degrees outside. 9 degrees! I could BARELY breathe last winter when it was around 20 outside. Man, you must really love running.

  2. I was bundled up a lot. I don't know that it's so much the running that I love, than it is the freedom. It's the hour (more or less) that I don't have three kids with me, I can just be myself, and get together with a couple friends I otherwise don't see.
For next time though, I need to bundle less. I had too many layers on top and got way too hot....

  3. Hi,

My name is Clara and I work with Yaktrax. I came across your blog and am so glad that you are enjoying your Yaktrax! If any of your Winter Warriors (love it!) don't have Yaktrax, direct them to me!

Happy trails- stay safe out there! :)

  4. Thanks Clara! I think we're pretty much set, though. The leader of the group owns a running/triathalon store and stocks Yaktrax, so anyone who didn't have them our first run in the snow, quickly bought them :)
I will be sure to follow you on FB and Twitter; who doesn't love contests and giveaways?!
